From January to December 2011, a total of P186.2 million worth of projects were initiated by large-scale mining companies in the cities of Toledo and Naga and in the towns of San Fernando and Alcoy, Cebu, and Garcia-Hernandez in Bohol Province.

Budgets

Carmen Copper Corp. in Toledo City had the biggest budget, with P156.7 million, followed by Apo Cement Corp. and Apo Land and Quarry Corp. in the City of Naga with P11.2 million.

Other Cebu mining companies with environmental projects were Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. and Solid Earth Development Corp. in San Fernando town with a total of P5.06 million.

Environmental management plan

The EPEP contains the mining company?€™s environmental management plan during the operation of the mining activity. It should also identify strategies to rehabilitate the mined area and potential land uses of the site.

?€œIt shall include a statement on post-mining land use potential for various types of disturbed land and extend to the completion of the commitments in the rehabilitation of the disturbed land in a technically, socially and environmentally competent manner,?€ said Alburo in a press statement.

The other companies with EPEP are Philippine Mining Service Corp. and Dolomite Mining Corp. in Alcoy, Cebu with P5.9 million; Philippine Mining Service Corp. and Bohol Limestone Corp. in Garcia-Hernandez town in Bohol with P3.5 million; and JLR Construction and Aggregates Inc. in the City of Naga with P2 million.
